Silverstone: Charles Leclerc back on Top

06/07/26
Charles Leclerc returned to winning ways at Silverstone, claiming his first Formula 1 victory in almost two years in front of a record weekend crowd of more than 540,000 spectators. The dramatic British Grand Prix finished behind the Safety Car after Max Verstappen retired, with George Russell taking a surprising second place. Lewis Hamilton completed the podium but lost the runner-up position due to a costly pit-stop strategy mistake. Reigning World Champion Lando Norris delighted the thousands of fans filling the Lando Norris Grandstands by finishing fourth. He was followed by the Racing Bulls trio of Isack Hadjar, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto, and the two Alpine drivers, Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly. The unluckiest driver of the race was Kimi Antonelli. The young Italian was comfortably on course for a podium finish before a suspension failure dropped him out of the top three and down the order. Just 24 hours earlier, Antonelli had celebrated victory in Saturday’s Sprint Race, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. The Formula 1 World Championship continues in just two weeks’ time with the legendary Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Despite his retirement, Antonelli still leads the Drivers’ Championship by 25 points over George Russell.
