Preview - Austrian Grand Prix

14/06/15
Spielberg, Austria: the next round of this year´s FIA Formula 1 World Championship will be held in our "garden" - just 300 m from our office we will have the pleasure to welcome all Formula 1 staff and thousands of fans!<div><br></div><div>The first ever Austrian GP took place in Zeltweg - the airfield of &nbsp;the airport was used as a racetrack. In 1969 the "Österreichring" next door opened and from 1970 - 1987 there used to be the Austrian F1 GP at this venue. Jochen Rindt was responsible for more than 100.000 fans to show up in 1970; Niki Lauda was the only Austrian to win his home event in 1984.</div><div><br></div><div>After a break from 1988-1996 the Formula 1 GP came back: the "Österreichring" - the most fastest but also very dangerous circuit - was cut by 1/3 and rebuilt to new standards and called "A1 Ring". We enjoyed seven great F1 events on the A1 Ring before at was "auf Wiedersehen!" again ….. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>As even most of the only 8 year old circuit was taken down nobody thought to see any races again - Formula 1 seemed to be not even worth dreaming of… Dietrich Mateschitz (Red Bull) bought the site and built the "Red Bull Ring" - which is more or less the layout of the A1 Ring but has brand new buildings and facilities…. &nbsp; After two years Mr Mateschitz and Mr E (Ecclestone) agreed for a multiyear Formula 1&nbsp;deal for Austria!</div><div><br></div><div>Last year more than 100.000 fans on raceday and more than 225.000 during the &nbsp;weekend made the Austrian GP a great success and a very big party.&nbsp;</div><div>Nico Rosberg won the race but the fans enjoyed a stunning parade of Austrian legends such as Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger, Karl Wendlinger, Alex Wurz, Patrick Friesacher, Dr Helmut Marko, Dieter Quester and more - all driving their former original Formula 1 cars! On top of all the fans enjoyed concerts every evening and Austrian hospitality….</div><div><br></div><div>Next weekend should be a kind of repeat&nbsp;: There will be plenty of Formula 1, GP2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup action on the circuit; concerts during the evenings and legends such as Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet,Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi driving their turbo charged cars from the 80th…. These beasts will have more than 1.500 horsepower and a drive is like a ride on a cannonball ….</div><div><br></div><div>Don´t miss it - we hope to see you at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg! Tickets are still available through us and from Thursday onwards at the &nbsp;gates.</div><div><br></div><div>Your GPT Team&nbsp;</div>
